This 90-minute interactive virtual forum will explore critical gaps in recovery capital among emerging adults and their families, featuring panelists with lived experience to offer valuable insights. 

Although still in its early stages, research increasingly highlights the value of recovery capital —the internal and external resources that help individuals initiate and maintain recovery from substance use disorders. Emerging adults (people aged 16–25) have unique recovery needs, yet few studies focus on the recovery capital needs of this population. Additionally, the concept of recovery capital is still relatively unfamiliar to many researchers, and even moreso to people in the broader community. 

To address this gap, the Justice-involved and Emerging Adult Populations (JEAP) Initiative and the Collaborative Hub for Emerging Adult Recovery Research (CHEARR) have been working together to provide opportunities for collaborative conversations and community-engaged research that focus on the unique needs of emerging adults, including recovery capital. 

This forum will feature panelists with lived experience who will share insights on what emerging adults wish they and their family members knew about recovery capital and how family support influences recovery. Researchers, providers, individuals with lived experience, and community members will gain practical perspectives to inform future research studies, interventions, and recovery support services.
